Huge trees and hundreds of flowering shrubs in Bruce Bunnings’ seven-acre garden are a mecca for birds whose song fills the garden – tui, bellbirds, kereru, kaka and others. The long-established garden was totally overgrown when Bruce bought it three years ago. Heroic efforts have resulted in a transformation.

Haiku Pathway

The Haiku Pathway is a one-of-a-kind in New Zealand. Featuring 27 river boulders engraved with haiku poems, the pathway meanders either side of Uretara Stream and forms a peaceful park in the heart of town. It is the largest collection of haiku “stones” in English and thought to be the largest outside Japan.

The Bird Gardens on the outskirts of katikati were created in 1976 when local visionary Chris Parker set to work landscaping a little over ten acres of land running down to the harbours edge. With his English background, botanical knowledge and the sites natural attributes of fresh water springs, ponds and wetlands he transformed this once bare land into a beautiful and special garden.

Our Little Paradise Riding School
Bay of Plenty - Katikati
Our Little Paradise riding school has providing horsetreks over the last 3 years. Now there are also lessons available for adults and children for beginners to experienced riders. Krissi is the main instructor, which Marianna now hires. The groups of kids are 3 at the most at one time. The adults are one to one which Marianna teaches.
